Do You Want To Burlesque? A song tribute to Steven Antin

When Burlesque The Movie came out I was excited but I didn’t realise how similar the story line was to my own life because at that stage I was only a few years into my burlesque career.

Produced  by Steven Antin, written over a period when he was working at Screen Gems, it tells the tale of Ali, a small town girl who leaves the sticks and heads to the big capital in search of her dream as a singer. In the movie Ali stumbles across a burlesque bar and her career as a singing burlesque queen begins!

Interestingly, I was in the throes of moving from Melbourne to London and back in pursuit of the same dream, everyone had said to me ‘If you want to achieve anything in music, you need to move to London like Kylie and Nick Cave’ so I had.

So this year as Burlesque The Musical is ready to debut in London, I’m dedicating my song ‘Do You Want  To Burlesque ? ‘ to Steven Antin, I believe his  work and the  music that stemmed from Burlesque The Movie has helped to grow our burlesque scene and unify it.
